Darsilami Diaspora Association

Mission & Purpose

The mission of Darsilami Diaspora Association (DDA) is to contribute to the socio-economic development of Darsilami through the provision of tangible and intangible infrastructures needed to uplift the living standards of its people.

DDA envisions a society in which all individuals, have equitable opportunities to realise their full potential and to participate meaningfully in the village building process; it shall bring together all the sons and daughters of Darsilami under one umbrella Association to work together in making Darsilami a modern village.

DDA’s purpose is to provide and create partnership with the residents of Darsilami, its resident organisations, local government institutions and all such institutions/ organisations (private and public); embark on development projects that will contribute to the socio-economic improvement for the community at large.

COVID-19

COVID-19 Fund Raising

DDA ran a successful Covid19 fund drive to help Darsilami citizens get through this year's Covid19 pandemic. The fund drive ran from mid March 2020 through late July 2020. Contributions came from Darsilami diasporans all over the world including Europe, United States and the Middle East.

Funds raised in the drive were sent to Darsilami in the form of bags of rice and cash. To distribute the donations, 51 compounds were identified. Each one of those recipients were given one bag of rice and some cash for groceries.

Football Field Fencing

In the summer of 2020 DDA donated another 50,000 Dalasis (GMD) to Darsilami to help in completing the football fence. This contribution is in addition to a previous 50,000 Dalasis (GMD) donation made in mid 2018. Work on building the football fence is still in progress and for the most part local teams are doing most of the work at this time as of now in 2020.

The fence will be a great boost to the town football program. It will, for example, allow the town to host home games.

DDA 2019 Annual Reunion

DDA had a successful annual reunion in Atlanta, Georgia, USA in July 4th weekend of 2019. The occassion was well attended and represented by members from around the United States. Attendees included family members and friends. It was an all day program with lots of food and music. The food included signature Gambian cousine such as "Yassa" and "Benna Chin" donated by DDA members. Furthermore, there was grilled lamb (babecue) Gambian style by DDA member grill master brother Ousman Jammeh.


School Supply Donation Drive

DDA collected school supplies for the elementary school in Darsilami. The donation collection period ran from early 2019 through July 4th weekend, 2019 in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. The supplies collection was spearheaded by Saikou during the 2019 Annual DDA Reunion in Atlanta, Goerga (USA).

In March 2020, DDA executive members Jiky Jarju (DDA PRO) and Saikou Sambouu (DDA Social Secretary) delivered school supplies to St. Patrick's Primary School (Lower Basic).

Central II Football Tournament

In late 2019, Darsilami players and fans prominently featured in the Kombo Central 2 tournament. These were pride moements and Darsilami citizens in the disapora as in Darsilami Diasoira Association contributed generouly to suppport this very exciting football tournament. The tournament was very successful and joyous thanks a lot to the contributions of Darsilami players and fans. It was reported that the reputuation of fans of Kombo Central 2 were selected to support The Gambia National Team (The Scorpions).

Darsilami Town Nawetaan

On January 12th 2019 town teams Satayba and Bayan played the final championship game for the town 2018 naweetan season. This final game was delayed until mid January 2019 due to disputes which pitted many town citizens against each other and temporarily impacted the long standing harmony and corporation that is always known for Darsilami.

However, at the conculsion of this chamnpionship game the whole town came togehter in a joyous celebration for all the teams that participated in the finals. In fact, some argued that this game sparked the beginning of the return to all town citizens getting along as Darsilami was always known for. The championship presentation was awarded by the Alkalo of Darsilami, Alhagie Tabali Bojang.
